What is menstruation (a period)?
 
Menstruation or period is when there is an amount of blood coming out from a uterus through vagina on a monthly basis. The cause of the bleeding is due to the egg does not have chance to fertilize with a sperm cell. Then it comes out from the body with tissue. The blood is not from any part of your body.
The first period starts when a girl reaches age about 11 – 15. The development of the brain, genetics, and physical and mental health condition of each individual determine when the period will start.

 

Counting your period:
Starting counting from the first day of the period to the day before the start date of the period of the next month. Generally, the cycle of a period is about 28-30 days, but it can vary according to health condition, mood and environment. Some ladies may be shorter or longer than the average.




Hygiene and menstruation:
  • Change pads often, preferably 4 times a day: morning, noon, evening and before going to bed. If you do not change them often, they can produce unpleasant odor and may lead to infection. When changing pad, should wash the area with clean water, not just wipe it off.
  • Wash your underwears and dry them under sunlight (should not dry them inside a toilet or in the place where there is no sunlight, because they may not be completely dry and causing fungus to grow.
  • Should not do heavy exercise or do lots of labor works.
  • Drink sufficient warm water.
  • Take enough rest and sleep a lot, should not worry too much.
